Dennis is the Chief CRNA at Advent Health Central Texas. He is the former Chief Research Officer at the NBCRNA (2020-2022) and was Adjunct Faculty in the Texas Wesleyan University DNAP where he taught Evidence Based Practice and Applied Biostatistics (2017-2023), and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Graduate School of Nursing. On September 1, 2020 he retired from the Navy as a Captain with 28 years of service. Dr. Spence is the former Phase II Research Director for the Navy Nurse Corps Anesthesia Program at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), IRB Chair at NMCSD, Regional Director for Nursing Research, Navy Medicine West, and former member of the Board of Directors for the NBCRNA.  He is a grant reviewer for the TriService Nursing Research Program. He has been married for 26 years to his wife Melissa, and they have two daughters, Mackenzie (24), and Katy (22). Dr. Spence resides in Austin, TX.
